My last game at Upton Park on Saturday.

Due to moving abroad very soon, after 30 odd years of travelling up from Havant to West Ham, Saturday will be my last game at Upton Park.
I don't want us to move to a bright new shiny stadium, but I do recognise that we have to for two reasons. Football is changing and it is no longer a sport, it is a business and the opportunity to move to the stadium was too good to turn down. Also there was no way we could let Tottenham take it, we would have become to Tottenham what Orient are to us.
I have many good memories and many bad ones, but that is what being a West Ham fan is all about. One Saturday we are being held by Rochdale at home in the cup and the next we are thumping City 4-1 in the league.
I will of course pay a visit to the new ground as and when I return back home to visit the family, but until then, farewell my love, it with a sad heart I release you!

Fifth - if i re call correctly the old bill coming into south bank - whilst yes very rare - was poss a newcastle night game - they beat us - think maybe 91? The copper was surrounded - in middle of a singing pogoing and chanting circle round him and lost the tit on top of his head. The game gad one if the most mental atmospheres i can recall - Same game we tried to get at them and them at us. Bad Blood from the 70's 80/'s i guess
May be wrong game but saw similar a few times in those years.

I remember a filthy night in 1976 when we played Eintracht Frankfurt...I must have been one of the last into the South Bank that night and as Alfie says the atmosphere and the memories still linger..yes,we have to move on but it's going to be a terrible wrench

I was in the south bank late 80s, early 90s... have no recollection of the Police ever coming into the crowd once... but then it was a long time ago now.
The rest of Alfie's description is spot on. My clearest memory of that time period is May 1990, Liam Brady's last match and running onto the pitch when he scored with loads of others... I didn't have the bottle to go and mob him though...

This is the time of year I tend to look back, take stock of my life and struggle not to develop psychotic behavioural patterns.
